Biltmore Street, Ste. Genevieve

We LOVE craftsman style homes – just can’t resist them. This beauty in our hometown needed some serious work to improve its curb appeal though. We gave it a new roof, new gutters, new windows and painted the entire exterior, included the detached garage.

As much as we loved the outside style, it didn’t compare to the treasures inside. Original stained glass windows, arched openings throughout, a huge fireplace and built-in shelving pieces. This home has all the character of a home in South City St. Louis with all the safety and charm of small-town Ste. Genevieve. We wanted to highlight all of that character but bring the house a little more up to date in terms of floor plan and function.

After we took down the wall separating the dining room from the kitchen, we kept that open feel by adding an extended breakfast bar perfect for heart-to-heart chats with family and friends while preparing meals. New floor to ceiling cabinetry, appliances and lighting add to the updated kitchen functionality but preserve the old-time charm.

The entire first floor got a flooring facelift, including a new mantel and stone hearth for the fireplace, and all new lighting (seriously, this could be our favorite home for light fixtures). First-floor laundry also adds to the functionality of this home, with a space near the back entry that would be ideal for a kids’ mudroom. Oh, and did we mention the jacuzzi tub with newly tiled shower?

This home did throw us for a loop though. After a particularly rain bout, we realized it was time for a new sub pump to address some drainage issues. No worries now though! Dry as a bone during storms.

In any case, we adore this home both inside and out and we’re glad to have been a part in giving it new life.
