Each of our remodels has some special element that drew us to the home in the first place. For our first Jackson remodel, it had to be the hardwood floors throughout the first floor. We knew from the moment we laid eyes on this place that we simply had to highlight these floors. So we had them completely refinished and they steal the show.

We also gave our favorite rooms to remodel – the kitchen and the bathroom – complete updates. In the kitchen, we shuffled the arrangement a bit to improve the flow and the aesthetics with all new cabinetry, countertops, appliances, floors and light fixtures. The upstairs bathroom that separates the two bedrooms was already huge, so we were able to install a 6 ft long, double sink, solid surface vanity. We also turned the bath into a newly tiled bath/shower combo. A large mirror, new lighting and extra outlets make this a completely functional space.

Downstairs we lightened up the wood-paneling mood with new paint, new floors, and replaced those lights that looked like a ship’s steering wheel. Yep, that’s right. We also put a couple of walls up to close off the laundry room from the rest of the living and office space, creating a handmade sliding barn door for a bit of fun character. Finally, a new vanity and corner shower completed an expansion of the basement’s ½ bath to a full. Bonus rooms galore down here give you plenty of storage and/or workspace.

Moving outdoors, we really took this one seriously. We regraded and re-seeded much of this yard, simplified the border landscaping, added full-length cedar windows boxes and shutters, added a safety railing to the attached carport and re-graveled the driveway. Nothing like shoveling gravel to work up a sweat. Oh and the arbor! We had a custom-built cedar arbor built to frame the front entryway. It’s going to look gorgeous with flowering plants climbing up each spring and summer!
